National Opera Singing Competition 2019
Thank you for your interest in applying to the Voices of South Africa National Opera Singing Competition & Masterclasses 2019 to be held in Cape Town between the 20th -28th July 2019. The workshops and masterclasses will happen in Wellington, Diemersfontein Wines & Country Estate.
All singers who are chosen for the competition must attend the masterclasses and have to arrive in Cape Town on the 20th July 2019 and depart on the 28th July 2019.
Return coach travel, accommodation and meals will be supported by the Voices of South Africa trust.
The closing date for the application and audio or video recording is 31 May 2019.
Results for those chosen will be announced on 7 June 2019.
No late applications will be accepted.

1st prize: R30 000
2nd prize: R20 000

Who is eligible to apply?
Singers of any African nationality
Age limit: there is one (1) age categories in the competition and it is 18 to 33 years
Singers must be at least 18 years old at the date of their auditions, and no older than 33 years on 20 July 2019.
The competition is open to all singers trained and untrained as it has a training and development part to it.
High level of preparation of your chosen arias is expected. All pieces must be memorised and sung from memory at the audition, semi-final and final

Repertoire for 2019:
Please note that you need to have four contrasting arias for this competition.
You need two arias for the semifinal and two arias for the final.
All arias need to be memorised by the time you arrive in Cape Town.
The choice of arias is completely yours. There are no prescribed arias this year.
You also need one classical song for the song prize. It can be in any language. You will need to provide the copies of all music for the pianist when you arrive on the first day.
